Juicing it to thinness?

Disclaimer: I am a BzzAgent and received this DVD free to review.  Please see below for my honest opinion about Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.

Can someone really lose weight by just drinking fruit/vegetable juice for 30 days? Is it safe? By watching Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead it looks like you can.  He mentioned having a doctor monitor you if you were taking medications.  Joe Cross, the guy in the documentary, got blood work every ten days.

I highly recommend this documentary to all my thin, fat and average friends.  Joe does a great job making the documentary fun and informative.

100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. In the mirror he saw a 310lb man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn’t end well— with one foot already in the grave, the other wasn’t far behind. FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe’s personal mission to regain his health.

With doctors and conventional medicines unable to help long- term, Joe turns to the only option left, the body’s ability to heal itself. He trades in the junk food and hits the road with juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for the next 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe has one goal in mind: To get off his pills and achieve a balanced lifestyle.

While talking to more than 500 Americans about food, health and longevity, it’s at a truck stop in Arizona where Joe meets a truck driver who suffers from the same rare condition. Phil Staples is morbidly obese weighing in at 429 lbs; a cheeseburger away from a heart-attack. As Joe is recovering his health, Phil begins his own epic journey to get well.

What emerges is nothing short of amazing – an inspiring tale of healing and human connection.
Part road trip, part self-help manifesto, FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD defies the traditional documentary format to present an unconventional and uplifting story of two men from different worlds who each realize that the only person who can save them is themselves.

Taken from the documentary’s website.

I have been inspired by Joe to purchase a juicer and start my own fast.  The juicer that he uses in the film is the one I purchased today.  It is a Juice Fountain Plus made by Breville.  I know, you may be saying that is really expensive, but you have to remember that you will be using it at least four times a day for thirty days straight.  If you get some cheap juicer from Wal-Mart it may not stand up to the wear and tear.

If you watch this documentary and you are inspired to juice, you can use the code BRGSURV20 until August 1.  When I receive my juicer I will let you know! Thanks for reading about a dugs life.

Almost reading…

As I told you guys before I am not that good at reading and it takes me awhile to read books. I have started the intro but then life got in the way.

I got promoted to full time at work, so more hours there. I work nights and during the day I am running around after my crawling daughter. Yes, she is crawling around now, it is amazing.

Welp (for you Carry) this is all going to change in a week. I was offered a job at the local university here in town. That means 8-5 m-f. I will have my nights and weekends back, which means more time to read!

More to come soon. Thanks for reading a dugs life.

‘Breaking’ into weight loss

My insurance has kicked in and I am so happy! Once I knew it was active I called the Doctor and made an appointment as soon as possible, and that was today.

I had a list to go over with the Dr.

  1. Wellness
  2. Right Nostril always clogged
  3. Right knee hurting
  4. Left foot hurting extremely bad

I go into the room and chat with the doc about what is going on. We see that I have lost some weight, but I still weighed in at 318 lbs. The conversation quickly goes from what is wrong to stop eating so much. What? Huh?! Did my Dr. just tell me that I was fat and overweight? Um, yes yes he did and you know what? I LOVE that he did. I wonder if Dr’s are telling people that they are overweight or if they don’t to not hurt their feelings? I believe I will talk about this on my next post.

After we got done chatting I went to get my blood drawn, that nurse was gentle.

Then I went to get my foot X-Rayed. The result?

That is my foot.. Looks weird huh? I wonder if that looks normal? Well, the second stick from the left you will see a fuzzy thing with a lil crack in it. Do you see it? Here let’s try this…

You see it now? Nice lil crack huh? How did that happen? I have a few ideas…

  1. Doing P90X and trying to keep up with Tony.
  2. Working at PetSmart and walking around on a concrete floor all the time.
  3. Being 100 pounds overweight.

I think it is a combo of all these.

WAKE UP DOUG YOU ARE FAT AND NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT Thanks for reading a dugs life.
