Made to Crave – Intro

According to the back of the book, yes that is how far I have gotten:

Has food become more about frustration than fulfillment? Made to Crave is the missing link between a woman’s desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen.  Auth Lysa TerKeurst personally understands the battle that women face.  In Made to Crave, she will help you:

  • Break the cycle of “Ill start again on Monday,” and feel good about yourself today.
  • Stop agonizing over numbers on the scale and make peace with your body.
  • Replace rationalizations that lead to failure with wisdom that leads to victory.
  • Reach your healthy goals and grow closer to God through the process.

This book is not a how-to manual or the latest, greatest dieting plan.  Made to Crave is a helpful companion to use alongside whatever healthy eating approach you choose–abook and Bible study to help you find the “want to” in how to make healthy lifestyle changes.

Well, I am not all excited about reading a book for women, but I am sure it will apply to me as well.  I do long for a craving, a craving for a relationship with God, yet I tend to railroad that relationship.  Due to what I have done in the past and what I struggle with in the present I find it difficult to understand that God wants a relationship with me.  Of course this is my mind saying this not my heart.  My heart tells me that God is the one that is outside looking in the distance waiting for me to come home for him to hug me and say, my son has come home.

Reading God’s word, the bible, and praying to Him is difficult because I feel unworthy to be in his presence.  Do you ever feel that way?  If you talk to my friends they will tell you that they have been telling me for years that no one is worthy to do these things.  But God loves us anyway, because we are NOT perfect.  I do not know where your insecurities lie, but for mine God is our Father, the ultimate Father and all the dads that were in my life hurt me in many different ways.  Some people have said, just get over it, they are not in your life anymore.  Yeah, they are not, however what they did have scared me deeply and I will never forget what has happened and if you are one that thinks “forgive and forget” well that is not in the bible, forgive is and I have done that and I think you should do it as well.  When you do it lifts a lot of stuff off your shoulders, however you can’t forget what happened and that is where we need to work that stuff out.

Well, back to the book, here are the table of contents:

  1. What’s Really Going on Here?
  2. Replaceing My Cravings
  3. Getting a Plan
  4. Friends Don’t Let Friends Eat before Thinking

  7. Im Not Defined by the Numbers

These chapters look short, so that is good for me.  Some of these chapters are looking really good.  I have tried working out before, however I have started a very difficult work out program and I have failed four times completing it, however I did not attempt to change my eating habits.  I am talking with a friend via email and he is helping me out a lot and we are going to get a workout program that is not so intense.  I will keep you abreast of the situation.

I am off to get ready for work and I will be packing my book to read the first chapter at lunch time, we will see how far I can get in 30 mins.  Thanks for reading a dugs life.

Following My Money – Found My Idol

Have you heard of Mark Driscoll? He is the preacher at the Mars Hill Church in Seattle, WA.  I follow him on Facebook and Twitter because I find good advise and nice little one liners here and there.  The other day I was scrolling through my news feed and I saw:

If you want to find your idol, follow your money.

I did that tonight and I am not afraid to tell you what my idol is…FOOD.  Some of you may be thinking I KNEW IT or oh great here we go again when is he going to get his life right?  I would like to say I am trying, but the word trying means there should be some sort of action behind it huh, so I cannot say that.

I opened up my Arvest online banking and looked through our statement.  In the last ten days I see where I ate out twenty-two times.  I then added up all the transactions coming to a total of $159.60 or 638 McNuggets.  That is a lot of money, that is a lot of money for anything let alone eating out.  I have a six month old daughter that I have to buy diapers for, a wife to take care of, and a mortgage payment! And I am out eating this junk!

Why do I like it so much?  Why do I want the taste of this yummy goodness that comes in a sack or box? I can tell you why, because I am a

According to Dr. Oz some food addiction is as great as a cocaine addiction:

Dr Oz: Carbs, The New Cocaine?

Dr Oz did a show called Carbs: The New Cocaine? because carbohydrates may just be one of the most addictive substances out there.  Gary Taubes told Doctor Oz on another show that he believes that everyone should eliminate all carbs from their diets (click here to read that recap:Dr Oz Gary Taubes).  On today’s show, Dr Oz is not being as strict as Taubes and saying that all carbs must be eliminated – just the unhealthy carbs like the foods made from white flour such as bread and pasta.  These unhealthy carbohydrates could be as addictive as Heroine or Cocaine!  After reading this article, you will be able to figure out if you are a Carb Addict or not, and then you can go on Dr Oz’s 28 Day Carb Addict Plan if necessary.

This is so serious that Dr. Oz has come up with a 28 day Carb Addict Plan. Which I may be doing soon, I am not really sure what I want to do yet.  This plan comes to mind, the Daniel’s Fast comes to mind and reading a book called Made to Crave: Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God. Not Food by Lysa TerKeurst.

One of the difficult things about reading this book is that fact that I do not read!  The fact that I do not read is because it is so difficult to read.  I have to stop and look up words if I do not know them.  Then there is me trying to underline the whole book because I do not want to miss anything.  Then I forget that I was reading a book and have to go back and re-read stuff because I forgot what it said.  of course all this stuff is just excuses, but it is true how difficult it is for me to sit down or lay in bed and read.

Since this post is getting so long I will stop here.  Thanks for reading a dugs life.

iPad = Kidney

You call me an Apple Fan boy?  Yes yes I am, however I do have my limits.  1. Money 2. Bodily harm.  If I do not have the money I will not be purchasing Apple products and you will not see me getting tattoos or hmm lets say SELLING A KIDNEY!  That is right, someone would actually sell their Kidney for one of Apple’s products.

Zheng, a 17 year old teenager from China, decided to sell one of his kidneys to finance the purchase of an iPad 2.  He apprenatly wrote about how he wanted an iPad 2 on the internet and how he did not have any money to purchase one and he wanted someone to help him.  A sol called broker reached out to him and said that he will help him donate his Kidney for $3,000.  The kid showed up to a hosptital and went under the knife.  Once he woke up, the “broker” gave him his money and left.  When the kid got out of the hosptial he went to the Apple store and purchase a MacBook and an iPhone.  He said since he had more money he would get better stuff than just the iPad 2.

The kid got home with his new stuff and his mom was like, um where did you get this stuff?  He explained everything to her and she took him to the police.  They then went to the hospital and found out that they are not even authorized to do operations like this and denied everything.

So, here is a kid missing a kidney and enjoying his new MacBook and iPhone.  Let’s hope his other kidney does not fail.
